Day 1: Essential Oils Observations
- Rosemary - strong flowery scent, clear liquid,
- Lavender/Tea Tree - somewhat strong combined scent, clear liquid
- Peppermint - minty smell, clear oil, tint of yellow, not entirely clear
- Eucalyptus - not too overly strong scent, clear liquid
- Witch Hazel - sour pungent smell, almost medicinal smell
- Glycerin - no scent at all, clear, thick and has a weight to it, sticky
Day 2: Mixing Oils Together (Test 1: Day 1 Observations)
- mixed five natural oils - 1 tbsp each in container
- poured 5 tbsp witch hazel into springy bottle
- poured natural oil mixture in springy bottle
- added 1 tbsp glycerin
- mixed: redid process again, double amount repellent made
- added more witch hazel, 2 tbsp dilute oils even more
- mix concoction together, then shake it
- white foamy, oily mixture
- mixed very well
- after while started separate
- bottom part white, top part clear
- after 2 hours, clear/white part more evident
- white part = part of bug spray that had glycerin
- stayed like that for rest of time
- smelled somewhat nice, not too strong/good, in the middle
- scent okay for bug repellent
Day 3: Mixing Oils Together (Test 1: Day 2 Observations)
- oils mixed, separated to two different part
- basically oils stayed same
- once shaken became even more foamy/bubbly
- no difference between the two days of the bug repellent
Day 4: Mixing Oils Together (Test 2: Day 1 Observations)
- used same process as Day 2 with a few changes
- doubled amount of oils poured first time, so didn’t have to double later
- added ½ tbsp glycerin, instead of 1 full
- bottle filled almost all the way to top, 2 cm of space left
- same results as first test but with more quantity
- Day 5: Mixing Oils Together (Test 2: Day 2 Observations)
- oils mixed, separated to two different part
- same observations as first
- once shaken became even more foamy/bubbly
- no difference between the two days of making of repellent
Day 6: Mixing Oils Together (Test 3: Day 1 Observations)- followed same measurements but diluted all oils first before mixing
- instead diluting all at same time
- same results as second test
- a little less repellent made
- little bit more successful
- oils mixed better than first two tests
- a tint more yellowish
- overall looks more like repellent
- smells same as first two though
- oils mixed, separated to two different part
